A: Good news — you don’t need a referral! Thanks to Direct Access laws, you can see a physical therapist without waiting for a doctor’s prescription or referral. The American Physical Therapy Association explains that direct access removes the state law requirement for physician referrals to receive evaluation and treatment. This means you’re free to choose the clinic you want and start care right away.
